Using PDO Threads to Lift and Smooth the Face and Body

If you want to achieve a more lifted and smooth appearance, consider PDO threads. PDO threads are dissolvable sutures that can lift and smooth your skin, stimulate collagen production, and improve the contours of your face and body.

Here is some information about PDO threads, their benefits, and how they differ from dermal fillers and surgery.

What Is a PDO Thread Lift?

A PDO thread lift is a minimally invasive procedure that involves inserting thin polydioxanone (PDO) threads under the skin. PDO is a biodegradable material that has been used in surgery for years. The threads have tiny barbs or cones that anchor to the tissue, creating a lifting effect. As the threads dissolve over time, they also stimulate collagen production, which helps improve the skin’s texture and elasticity.

A PDO thread lift can be performed on different face and body areas, but it’s especially popular for the mid-face, lower face, jawline, neck, brows, nose, breasts, thighs, abdomen, and buttocks. A lift can help reduce sagging skin, smooth out wrinkles, and enhance the contours of the face and body.

The Different PDO Threads

There are two kinds of threads: Lifting Threads and Smooth Threads.

Lifting Threads

Lifting threads are specially molded barbed suture threads that grasp and lift the tissue for a longer-lasting and superior lift while stimulating collagen and elastin production in the area. Lifting threads last anywhere from 12 to 18 months.

Smooth Threads

Smooth, tiny suture threads are placed in the desired area for collagen and elastin stimulation and production. This treatment can be used for support in some areas while adding collagen and elastin to the skin.

PDO Threads and Dermal Fillers

Dermal fillers and surgery are other options for improving the appearance, but they have different mechanisms and outcomes.

Dermal fillers are a treatment that adds volume to the skin and plumps up areas that have lost fat or collagen. Although they can help create a sharper look by filling in hollows or adding substance to the face, dermal fillers cannot lift sagging skin or tighten muscles. Moreover, they must be repeated every nine to twelve months to maintain the results.

Collagen decreases as we age, causing the skin to appear older. Galiderm Aesthetics also offers collagen-stimulating dermal fillers used for non-surgical procedures such as non-surgical BBLs and more.

Surgery, such as breast lift, facelift, and neck lift, are more invasive options for enhancing the face and body. These surgeries involve making incisions in the skin, removing excess fat and skin, and tightening the underlying muscles. Although surgical procedures can provide dramatic and long-lasting results, they also include more risks, costs, and recovery time than non-surgical options.

A PDO thread lift offers an outstanding balance between dermal fillers and surgery. It can lift and tighten the skin and muscles, restoring volume and stimulating collagen production. A lift can also address areas dermal fillers cannot, such as accordion or marionette lines. In addition, a PDO thread lift is less invasive and less expensive than surgery, but it can also offer longer-lasting results than dermal fillers. Depending on the type and number of threads used, a PDO thread lift can last up to 18 months or longer.

The Benefits of PDO Threads

PDO threads can offer several benefits for improving the appearance, such as:

  • Lifting sagging skin and jowls
  • Redefining the face and body
  • Smoothing out wrinkles and creases
  • Enhancing facial harmony and balance
  • Stimulating collagen production and improving skin quality
  • Providing natural-looking results
  • Having minimal downtime and recovery
  • Being suitable for most skin types and ages

The threads can also be combined with other treatments, such as dermal fillers or Botox, to achieve optimal results.
