What to Expect with PDO Threads

pdo thread lift

Sagging skin, wrinkles, and fine lines are natural signs of aging but not particularly welcomed. Today, you have many options to address these effects and regain a more youthful look.  Some of the methods offered at Galiderm Aesthetics are both effective and minimally invasive.  PDO threads are an alternative to the traditional or partial facelift. This affordable outpatient procedure gives you fast results with little to no downtime. Learn more about PDO threads and what to expect from your procedure.

What is PDO Thread Treatment?

A polydioxanone (PDO) treatment or lift uses a dissolvable suture to lift the skin and tissues on your face and neck to add firmness and tighten loose skin. PDO threads temporarily give you the benefits of a facelift in under an hour without the need to cut into your skin.

Several PDO treatments are available, including the cat eye thread lift, eyebrow thread lift, nose thread lift, and neck thread lift.

How Do PDO Threads Work?

During the PDO threading procedure, your plastic surgeon will insert the PDO threads into your skin and then position them to give your skin a fresher look. The threads cause your skin to tighten as it heals due to a surge in collagen. The results are long-lasting and look natural and subtle.

What to Expect with PDO Threads

A PDO thread lift is a medical procedure, so you must know what to expect beforehand.

Before

Before your PDO procedure, you will consult your doctor at Galiderm Aesthetics, who will advise you about the procedure and the recovery process. They may advise you to adjust your medications before the lift.

During

You will be awake during the procedure since your doctor uses local anesthesia. Your highly skilled surgeon will use a cannula to insert the threads under your skin. You should be comfortable during the lift due to the medications provided. The procedure should take around an hour to complete.

After

You are allowed to return home right after your thread lift. You can expect some swelling and bruising where the threads were placed. You may need to apply ice to help with the discomfort and take over-the-counter painkillers for a few days. The doctor will tell you not to wash your face for 24 hours or use makeup for a few days to allow your skin to heal properly.

How Long Do Results Last?

Results vary according to your age and skin condition. Younger people between 30 and 50 may see the benefits for 3 to 4 years. Older patients with thinner skin may see the benefits ebb after a year or two. Patients wanting to maintain their results can schedule maintenance appointments as needed.
