What Are Dermal Fillers & Why Do You Need Them?
A dermal filler is a non-surgical cosmetic procedure in which a specialist injects a filler substance, typically hyaluronic acid gel, beneath the skin in specific areas. Injectable dermal fillers add volume to your face while also smoothing fine lines, deep wrinkles, and skin folds.
As you get older, your body and skin begin to lose collagen, which is essential for keeping your skin tight and youthful. As a result, your skin loses elasticity and volume. It eventually becomes loose and sags.

Filler FAQs
Which fillers last the longest?
Every filler we carry has great longevity. We love and only use products that integrate nicely with your tissue to not only look but feel as natural as possible. We also carry biostimulating products such as Radiesse which promote collagen and elastin production, which in turn results in longevity. In all, you can always expect to get about a year out of any filler treatment.
When should you start using fillers?
We get this question a lot, there is no “right time” to start getting fillers. Fillers are used both for anti-aging as well as contouring, volumizing, and lifting. The question is really what is your goal? Are you interested in getting fillers because you want to contour, or enhance/improve certain facial features. If that’s the case then you can start getting fillers at any age. If you are interested in anit-aging treatments so you age gracefully with less lines, wrinkles, sagging etc than we recommend coming in as soon as you start the aging process start typically mid 20s to mid 30s depending on your lifestyle, eating habits, and genetics. There are also patients that may be deeper into the aging process and would just like to rewind the clock, these patients should come in as soon as they like. In short, there is no real “time” to start with fillers. The more important thing is to make sure you are seeing a provider that understands your goals and expectations and keeps you looking natural and refreshed.

Are dermal fillers the same as lip fillers?
Dermal fillers and lip fillers are related but not exactly the same. Dermal fillers are a general term for injectable substances used to restore volume, smooth wrinkles, and enhance facial contours. They are commonly composed of materials like hyaluronic acid and can be applied to various areas of the face. On the other hand, lip fillers specifically refer to the use of dermal fillers that enhance the size, shape, and volume of the lips.
What areas can be treated with dermal fillers?
Dermal fillers are versatile cosmetic treatments that can address a variety of facial areas to rejuvenate your appearance. Common areas of treatment include the nasolabial folds, frown lines, smile lines, and marionette lines. Additionally, dermal fillers are often used to plump and shape the lips, smooth out chin wrinkles, and soften the appearance of jowls. They can also be injected in the cheeks to restore volume and in the under-eye area to reduce the appearance of hollows.
What’s the difference between dermal fillers and Botox/Dysport?
Dermal fillers and Botox/Dysport are both popular non-surgical cosmetic treatments used to enhance the appearance of the face, but they work in different ways. Dermal fillers are used to restore lost volume, smooth out wrinkles, and enhance facial contours. They are primarily made from hyaluronic acid. On the other hand, Botox and Dysport are types of neuromodulators, which are used to relax the muscles that cause dynamic wrinkles, such as forehead lines, crow's feet, and frown lines. While dermal fillers and Botox/Dysport can both improve facial aesthetics separately, they are often used in combination for a comprehensive anti-aging strategy.
Can dermal fillers help with acne scars?
Dermal fillers can be an effective option for improving the appearance of acne scars. These injectable treatments work by adding volume to the skin, helping to smooth out and fill in the pitted or depressed areas caused by acne scarring.
What Is The Ideal Age For Treatment With Dermal Fillers?
There’s no single ideal age for dermal fillers. It depends more on your aesthetic goals and signs of aging than your age. Many people start in their late 20s to early 30s to prevent volume loss, while others seek treatment in their 40s or beyond to restore youthful contours and smooth wrinkles.
Do Dermal Fillers Work For Non-Surgical Lip Augmentation?
Yes, dermal fillers are a popular and effective option for non-surgical lip augmentation. They can add volume, enhance shape, and define the lip borders with minimal downtime and natural-looking results.
How Often Will I Need Reinjection With Fillers?
The frequency of reinjection depends on the type of filler used, the treatment area, and your individual metabolism. Most hyaluronic acid fillers last 6 to 18 months, while longer-lasting options like poly-L-lactic acid or calcium hydroxyapatite may last up to 2 years. Your provider can recommend a personalized schedule to maintain your results.
How do dermal fillers work?
Dermal fillers work by adding volume beneath the skin to smooth wrinkles, restore lost facial fullness, and enhance contours. Most are made of substances like hyaluronic acid, calcium hydroxyapatite, or poly-L-lactic acid that help plump the skin and stimulate collagen production. The results are immediate and can last several months to over a year, depending on the type of filler used.
Can dermal fillers be removed?
Yes, some dermal fillers, especially those made of hyaluronic acid, can be safely dissolved using an enzyme called hyaluronidase if you want to reverse the treatment. However, fillers made from other materials like poly-L-lactic acid or calcium hydroxyapatite cannot be easily removed and will naturally fade over time. Always consult your provider about removal options before treatment.
5 Things to Expect Before Getting Lip Filler
If I Could Give 10 Stars I Would!
“I was extremely impressed with her wealth of knowledge about lip injections and each product on the market. Upon arriving I was welcomed into a gorgeous room that had the cutest chic decor and very clean. She took the time to listen to all my concerns and expectations with my lip procedure. She also was very thorough with explaining the risks/precautions when getting a procedure which was actually very informative and something my previous injectionist (plastic surgeon) never did. I am so happy with my results and I can’t wait to come back! She also made it very clear to point out anything I didn’t like or anything that she didn’t do to my liking before I leave (there wasn’t anything to point out) but I thought that was really great. If I could give 10 stars I would!”
