Types of PDO Threads
PDO (Polydioxanone) threads are specially designed to lift and rejuvenate the skin, offering a non-surgical alternative to traditional facelifts and body lifts. At GaliDerm Aesthetics, we offer two main types of PDO threads: Smooth/Mono Threads and Barbed Lifting Threads. Each type is tailored to meet specific needs, ensuring that you achieve the desired results in a safe and comfortable environment.
Smooth/Mono Threads
Smooth/Mono Threads are fine, delicate threads inserted just beneath the skin to stimulate collagen production and gently lift the treated areas. They are ideal for those looking to improve skin texture, firmness, and overall appearance without significant lifting.
PDO Threads for the Face
Smooth/Mono Threads are versatile and can be used to enhance various areas of the face, offering subtle yet effective improvements:
Cheek Lift
Enhance the natural contours of your cheeks with Smooth Threads, creating a more defined and youthful appearance.
Brow Lift
Achieve a gentle lift of the brows, opening up the eyes and providing a refreshed, awake look.
Jawline Lift
Define and sculpt the jawline, reducing the appearance of sagging and creating a sharper, more contoured profile.
Nose Lift
Subtly elevate the nose tip or bridge, refining the shape and enhancing your natural beauty.
Neck Lift
Smooth and firm skin on the neck, reducing the appearance of wrinkles and sagging for a more youthful neckline.
Jowl Lift
Lift and tighten the jowl area, restoring a youthful contour to the lower face.
PDO Threads for the Body
Smooth/Mono Threads are also effective for body contouring, providing a non-surgical option for lifting and tightening various areas:
Abdominal Lift
Firm and tone the abdominal area, creating a smoother, more contoured midsection.
Breast Lift
Gently lift and support the breasts, enhancing their shape and appearance without surgery.
Arm Lift
Tighten and smooth the skin on the upper arms, reducing the appearance of sagging and creating a more toned look.
Knee Lift
Improve the texture and firmness of the skin around the knees, reducing wrinkles and sagging.
Butt Lift
Subtly lift and contour the buttocks, enhancing your natural curves and providing a more youthful silhouette.

Barbed Lifting Threads
Barbed Lifting Threads are designed with tiny barbs, providing a more pronounced lift for areas that need more significant support. These threads are ideal for those seeking a more noticeable lift while still enjoying the benefits of a non-surgical procedure. The barbed threads gently lift the skin upward, creating a firmer, more lifted appearance that looks natural and feels comfortable.

PDO Thread FAQs
Are PDO threads permanent?PDO threads are not permanent but dissolve into the skin over time. As they dissolve, the threads increase collagen and elastin production, leaving you with smoother, more lifted skin that lasts. Can PDO threads move?Barbed or lifting threads do have the possibility to move or migrate but it is not common especially when they are placed in the correct plane, and the patient follows appropriate aftercare instructions. Can you remove PDO threads?Yes, they can be removed very easily in the office if necessary but that’s not usually done. Do PDO threads cause scar tissue?Threads do cause a minimal amount of micro-scarring which helps create a stronger and longer-lasting lift. The micro-scarring that occurs with PDO threads is actually beneficial to your lift and is less than the micro-scarring you get with other treatments such as biostimulatory fillers, RF microneedling, etc. The micro-scarring that occurs will not cause any negative effects even for future surgical treatments. Do PDO threads work?Absolutely. At GaliDerm Aesthetics, our PDO threads treatment can lift, firm, and smooth your skin while you enjoy our relaxing, spa-like environment. Does PDO thread lift hurt?We ensure a comfortable treatment by numbing the entire area before starting the procedure, so the treatment itself should be very comfortable. Once the numbing starts to wear off, the initial discomfort will start. The tenderness/soreness will be the most intense during the first 3 days, then the discomfort will become more moderate from days 4-14 at which point the discomfort will transition from mild to sporadic until 4-6 weeks out. How do PDO threads work?PDO threads work by physically lifting the tissue and repositioning the fat pads in the face. Once lifted the threads will cause the body to create collagen, elastin, and micro scarring which will help lift further and ensure a longer-lasting lift. The threads typically start to dissolve around 9 months out and the lift will continue to stay up for about 1-1.5 years out, while the collagen that was created will typically last 3-5 years. How long does a thread lift last? The lift will typically last about 1-1.5 years and the collagen that was produced will last about 3-5 years. Maintenance can be done around 1 year. How long does it take for PDO threads to work? While you may notice some firmness and lift immediately after treatment, it can take a few months to see the full benefits. Once your skin builds up more collagen, you’ll see smoother, younger-looking skin that will last for 1-2 years. How long does it take for swelling to go down after PDO threads?Every patient is different but typically swelling, if it does occur, will resolve within the first 3 days to a week. How long does PDO last? The threads typically last about 9 months to a year at which point they start to dissolve but the lift will last a little longer due to the collagen that was produced during that time period. |
